Map locations - Union Street, Gayfield Square, Brunswick Street, Albion Road

In Andrei Tarkovsky's film Stalker (1979) a forbidden Zone protected by military guards exists which has a wish granting device; any person entering into it will see their desires realised if they follow a 'Stalker', or guide. The film's protagonists enter the Zone only to realise they must delve deeper and enter the 'Room' within the Zone before they can be transformed. Fearful of the outcome of the Room they instead wait at its entrance, a decrepid, isolated place full of anxious yearning.

Each city has its divisions and zones; the labyrinthine logos of these signs could be read in a number of ways but their main goal is to draw attention to hidden, unlikely or less picturesque areas which are creative hubs within Edinburgh, where there are artist run galleries or artist / design studios nearby, sites which offer potential for escape or regeneration, but could just as easily be places for frustration and unfulfilled or latent desires.
